About Us

Gujarati Samaj was founded in 1982. A group of Industrialists from Gujarat State , under leadership of Mr Naranbhai Patel conceived the idea and formed the Samaj. Currently Mr Natanbhai Patel is the Chairman of the Gujarati Samaj and Mukesh Bhatt is the President. Shri Naranbhai Patel was awarded MFR award by former President Jonathan Goodluck recognizing his efforts in philantrophy in Nigeria. The Samaj is registerd as : The Mahatma Gandhi Gujarati Social and Cultural Association.

The prime objectives of the Samaj are :

  • Humanitarian projects for the Host Community in Nigeria initiating and supporting Free Eye Operations. The Samaj has contributed for over 20,000 free eye operations in Nigeria from 2005 till 2015. Samaj is also contributing to the Indo Eye Care hospital project coming up in next 2 years in Lagos. Funds were raised at the silver jubilee celebrations of Samaj.
  • Gujarati Samaj is involved in supporting Jaipur Foot initiative of Hindu mandir foundation, now a Rotary Club initiative. This venture provides free artificial limbs to the underpriviledged in the host community to those who have lost their lower limb in an accident or diseases.
  • Organizing a cultural dance competition for talented Indian children under the banner of Boogie Woogie, now running every year in November for last 9 years. Ths is a very good means of talent show casing and entertainment to Indian Children in Lagos.
  • Samaj is encouraging and supporting talented children of Indian Language School (ILS) by sponsoring 15 types of Awards Every year, in various fields for their excellent achievements.
  • Organizing New Year gathering for all Gujarati community every year.
  • Organizing Four (4) entertainment picnics for members every year.
